Russian Hill is a classic north-end San Francisco neighborhood that boasts some of the most spectacular bay and bridge views in all of San Francisco. Russian Hill is named for the discovery of a small Russian graveyard found at the top of the hill in the 1800’s, the graveyard is long gone from Russian Hill but the name has proved enduring.
Russian Hill condos are nestled throughout the neighborhood. You’ll find Russian Hill condos on the crooked portion of Lombard Street in the neighborhood. And near parks like the Alice Marble tennis courts and Ina Coolbrith Park. Just two spots near so many Russian Hill condos.
Hyde street and Polk street both offer a mix of shopping and dining opportunities for neighborhood residents that don’t want to venture far from home. The prestigious San Francisco Art Institute, a world-renowned school for art that is also home to several Diego Rivera murals, is also in the neighborhood.
Public transit to the neighborhood is provided by several Muni bus lines, and the cable cars meander through the neighborhood, but if BART or Muni trains are your primary mode of transport, you’ll have to decide if the walk to those stations is worth the neighborhood views and reputation. The hills will provide plenty of juice for leg workouts if you decide to make walking or biking a part of your regular commute or exercise routine.
